MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! Sandbag Removal Completed!
Sandbag removal is finally completed. While we didn’t have the quantity of volunteers we would have liked, the quality was outstanding as always! Thank you to everyone who helped even for just a few hours – it makes a big difference to the property owners and the neighborhood.
For those of you who chose not to help remove sandbags, you might want to do a lot of praying over Easter weekend to avoid ending up in the place down below. :-)
Good work everyone!
Sandbag Removal at 5:30 pm Today!
Hi Everyone,
First, if anyone is interested in starting to remove sandbags at 2 pm, please e-mail/call/text Shannon by 1 pm today. If we can get enough volunteers (e.g. 10) by 2 pm, we can start removing sandbags to get a head start.
Regardless, everyone will be meeting at the north cul de sac at 5:30 pm today (Wednesday) to finally finish the removal of all the sandbags! If we get a good turnout today (50+ volunteers), we will be able to get all of the sandbags removed (we only have about 200’ left to remove). If we do not get a good turnout today, sandbag removal will unfortunately have to continue for the next day (or worse, next couple of days). Let’s get all of our friends, neighbors, enemies, etc. out today to make one last strong effort to get this project done so we can start living our lives again!
Thanks and we look forward to seeing you tonight!
Sandbag Removal – Monday (5:30 – 8:30 pm)
I was unable to attend today, but Roger said there were approximately 50 volunteers today which is a healthy number! Sandbag removal continues on Monday at 5:30 pm (meet at the north cul de sac).
Sandbag Removal Time for Sunday at 1 pm
Sandbag removal for Sunday is scheduled for this Sunday (3/28/10) at 1 pm at the south side cul de sac. We only had 10 volunteers today and if we want to remove all of the sandbags from people’s yards we really need a lot more (100+ preferably). Whoever can make it out will be greatly appreciated byeveryone.
Removing Sandbags Saturday at 11 am
We will be starting to remove sandbags off people’s property starting on the south side of Timberline today and working our way north. We are going to try to leave the sandbags that are on parkland for the City to remove, but we need to remove the sandbags off people’s property. If we can get 150-200 volunteers we can get the majority removed today (excluding what is on parkland). Hence, bring as many people with you as you can (e.g. friends, your kids, your kid’s friends, mother-in-laws, etc.).
We are starting at 11 am today (Saturday, 3/27/10). See you there!
Sandbag Levee Removal (from City of Fargo)
Below is a news release from the City of Fargo encouraging homeowners to begin sandbag removal as of March 26th (I guess this is better than asking us to build to 42′ with 3 rows of bags on top :-). I believe the general plan is to wait for the water on the bike path to drop low enough where skidsteers could drive upon and help remove the sandbags (easier and less damaging to go downhill toward the sidewalk than to go uphill through everyone’s yards). More information will be posted as to specific day(s)/time(s) to remove sandbags.

Good news!!! Tim Mahoney just stopped by to let us know that the city/state/FEMA will be removing all of the Hescos and the sandbags/dikes in the neighborhood. I’m not sure when, probably after the second crest, but it will be done for us. YEH!

Bag and Pallet Pickup (From Dave Helland)

Subject: bag pick up
Shannon,
Can you pass this along to the neighborhood that bags will not be picked up until after the second crest. They are still very concerned that the potential for the second crest could reach a height near what we just experienced – if we do approach the 40’ elevation, I feel we need to have a fair number of bags at our disposal, still located in garages that are not frozen. I would hate to see a bad connection or weak spot that needs to be reinforced and all of our bags are frozen along the curb.
It is my understanding that the City of Fargo will soon be making it out to the neighborhoods picking up pallets and cleaning up other debris and of course this will take time.
Thanks,
Dave Helland
Sandbag Pallet Cleanup (From Dave Helland)
Some excerpts from an e-mail I received from Dave Helland our City of Fargo contact.
Shannon
I will be checking to see when we can start having stored sandbags and the center of the cul-de-sacs cleaned up. I am sure the City of Fargo will start with some of these clean up issues as soon as they can. I will stay in touch with you if you can pass along information as I receive it from the City of Fargo.
Remember that we will need to keep all of the protection in place until we have the second crest.
If there are any questions or concerns I can help the neighborhood with, please let me know.
Team work is certainly stronger than individuals and I commend the Timberline neighborhood for the great team effort in this flood fight, you should all be very proud of what your neighborhood has accomplished!
Thank you,
Dave Helland
Pallet Removal from Garages
Over the course of the next few days several of the guys in the neighborhood will be moving the pallets of sandbags out of the garages using a skid steer with rubber tracks. They will be moving the pallets to the boulevard until we receive further information.
If you have sandbags they will need to have access into your garages. Please provide me with exactly what type of access they will have. Such as leaving side service door open, somebody will be home to let them in or providing a garage code.
Thanks!
