Dike Removal Meeting – Notes from LuAnn Regan
1. The Army Corp of Engineers will be removing the dikes citywide. They are formulating their plans now and looking at hiring contractors to do the work. They will be asking permission from homeowners for dike removal. We will each have to sign paperwork giving them permission to enter our properties and also releasing them from any liability for further damage to lawns, etc. They will be coming door to door to get the forms signed. You may, of course, choose NOT to have them remove your dike and do it yourself. The Corp hopes to get started next week and is thinking it will take at least two to three weeks to complete. It may take even longer to remove sand bags. NO, we do not know specifically when Timberline will be done!
2. The contingency dikes will be removed before our neighborhood dikes are removed. This gives the Corp better access to get in and out of the neighborhood to complete the dike removal process.
3. FEMA representatives will be out in the neighborhoods looking over damages to help determine if they will cover the cost to re-grade the yards. There will be more info on that later once FEMA makes their decision.
